The 2018 Winter Olympics begins in Pyeongchang on Friday and
the opening ceremony took centre stage to kick-off the 23rd
Games.
boasting nearly 3,000 athletes, with all eyes on the sight
of North and South Korean competitors uniting to walk into
the stadium together for the first time.
Norway topped the medal table as Marit Bjorgen won gold in
the women's cross-country skiing 30km mass start classic,
the final event of the Winter Olympics.
Norway finished with 14 golds, the same as Germany, but won
a record 39 medals overall, eight more than the Germans.
Bjorgen, 37, became the most decorated Winter Olympian by
winning bronze in the team sprint free - her fifth medal at
Pyeongchang 2018 and 15th overall.

Lizzy Yarnold defended her skeleton title to win Britain's
only gold, while Dom Parsons and Laura Deas took bronze in
the same sport.
Two golds, two failed doping tests...............
Russia were banned from the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang
because of state-sponsored doping at their home games in
Sochi four years ago.
The Olympic athletes from Russia (OAR) team were not allowed
to parade under the Russian flag at the closing ceremony
following two doping violations.
After the awarding of 102 gold medals in 15 sports across 16
days, nearly 3,000 athletes from 92 countries marched into
the Pyeongchang Olympic Stadium, greeted by colourful light
shows and South Korean music, for Sunday's closing ceremony.
South Korean president Moon Jae-in and Ivanka Trump, the
daughter of US president Donald Trump, were in attendance,
as was General Kim Yong-chol, the head of North Korea's
delegation.
